Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray Player
Pandora & Netflix streaming
Wireless Internet connectivity
Extremely responsive
Fast load times
Samsung has delivered some solid Blu-ray players in the past, and they haven’t been shy about including high-end video processing. The BD-P3600 is no exception. It includes onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, 7.1-channel analog outputs, Netflix streaming, and Wi-Fi connectivity. The BD-P3600 is a very sleek-looking player that takes a minimalist approach to aesthetics. The front panel is jet black, and only the tray is obvious. It also has a garish-looking sticker that flaunts the player’s advanced features. You’ll find no buttons on the player’s front panel at all. There’s a small door on the far right that provides access to one of the player’s two USB slots. The top of the case curves slightly and features a piano black finish. Here you’ll find touch-sensitive interface keys. The Samsung has a full complement of connectivity options for both newer and legacy systems, including full 7.1-channel analog audio outputs. On the digital side, you get a TosLink output and an HDMI 1.3a output. Analog video connections include component video and composite video. Samsung excludes S-video and digital coaxial audio connections. The BD-P3600 is BD-Live compatible and includes a dongle for Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. The dongl e att aches to the rear USB port. There’s also a standard LAN connection if you already have a wired setup. Props to Samsung for including Wi-Fi and 1 GB of internal memory, which alleviates the hidden cost and additional hassle of needing external memory to take advantage of the BD-Live features that new-release Blu-ray Discs frequently require.
SAMSUNG BD-P3600 BLU-RAY PLAYER FEATURES
The BD-P3600 powers up incredibly fast. An onscreen display instantly greets you. The Samsung has a home menu that offers processing solutions, including the HQV Reon-VX solution. Netflix streaming video and Pandora Radio are particularly nice options included in the BD-P3600. (You’re tethered to your PC since you must manage your queue at Netflix.com, but you certainly can pick from a wide range of video programming.) The setup menus are very simple. The remote control has a sleek design, and the playback keys glow in the dark. Samsung’s standard DVD playback was quite good, and Blu-ray pl ayback is outstanding. The player’s internal decoding supports all of Blu-ray’s advanced audio formats, plus bitstream support if you prefer that route.. The BD-P3600 even supports HD streaming, although the streaming quality depends heavily on your Internet connection speed. By including wireless connectivity and built-in internal memory, it takes the guesswork out of making the most of your Blu-ray library.
